‘Intelligent’ player dreaming of making a return to Man City after summer exit
Former Manchester City player, Yangel Herrera, is reportedly eager to make a return to the Etihad Stadium.
After spending over six years being owned by the Manchester club, during which he completed numerous loan spells, the midfielder joined Girona on a permanent basis during the previous summer transfer window.
Despite that, the Venezuelan still has his mind on Pep Guardiola’s side.
Herrera hoping for City return
According to a recent report from Lider Herrera is hoping that his performances for Girona this season will give him the chance to become a regular player for City in the future.
The report also adds that the 25-year-old is considered to be one of the best midfielders in La Liga by coaches and journalists across Spain based on his performances this season.
Despite being owned by the club for such a significant period of time, the midfielder, who Patrick Vieira once described as an “intelligent” player, didn’t end up making even one appearance for City.
This season has seen Herrera feature in all of Girona’s 15 La Liga games, starting 14 of them and scoring four goals in the process, which shows how important he is for the Spanish side.
Across those 15 league games, the midfielder has shown how much of a useful figure he is from a defensive point of view, having racked up the joint-highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (39) at the club, winning more tackles in the midfield third (14) and the attacking third (5) of the pitch than any other Girona player.
His overall performances have earned him a strong season rating of 7.18.10 from WhoScored, which makes it easy to see why he is apparently so highly thought of in Spain right now.
In terms of a potential move back to City and actually being a regular player for them, it’d be interesting to see if the club are still keeping their eyes on him and if they could be swayed into making another deal for him in the future.
